The Day I Meditated with Deepak Chopra

Note: I attended Oprah Winfrey’s Life You Want Weekend Tour earlier this fall. I’m blogging every day this week about main messages from the event. Today is Day 4.

Oprah Winfrey opened the second day of her Life You Want Weekend with a group meditation with spiritual leader Deepak Chopra.

For nearly 10 minutes, we sat in a darkened Philips Arena with our eyes closed, breathing deeply and listening to Chopra. The video in this blog post is the entire meditation.

During the meditation, Chopra told the audience to ask themselves four questions. But when we asked ourselves the questions, were not to look for answers. We were to “allow the answers come to you, if they come,” he said, adding that we should ask for images, feelings or thoughts to be revealed to us.

The questions were:

  • Who am I?
  • What do I want?
  • What is my purpose?
  • What am I grateful for?

The meditation got much deeper as he continued. At the end, Chopra said that if people started their day with this meditation, “the day will take care of itself. The day will unfold.”

One of the points of Oprah Winfrey's special weekend was reinvention. She encouraged people to reinvent themselves by hearing Deepak Chopra and by seeing powerful messages like her quote in this photo. Photo by: Chanda Temple
